Kenneth A. Wheeler

Kenneth A. Wheeler, 96 years old of Cohoes N.Y, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Eddy Village Greene, Cohoes, NY on 2/19/2023. He was born and raised in Lansingburgh, NY, educated in Lansingburgh Schools and joined the Navy in 1944. He was the son of the late Kenneth and Nellie Wheeler of Lansingburg. Ken was a loyal employee of General Electric for 41 years, retiring in his early 60s. Ken’s life long loves include Schroon Lake where he spent many summers with friends and family, whittling, piano playing and a love of music in particular Willie Nelson. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to camp, fish, bike ride and take long walks. He was Scoutmaster of Troop 70/670 for 15 years leaving a positive influence on his Scouts, seeing many of them reach the highest achievement of Eagle Scout. Ken was also a member of the Willard Mountain Ski Patrol for over 20 years and skied until the age of 82. His love of skiing included teaching his children and grandchildren to ski. He was a parishioner and active participant of St. Marie’s/Holy Trinity Church for 70 years. Ken was pre-deceased by Claire T. Wheeler, his loving wife of 69 years. Loving father of Mick (Kathleen) Wheeler of Latham, Sandra Wheeler (Thomas DeMeo) of Cohoes/Florida, Debra (Bradford) Peck of Greenfield Center, Nancy (Jeff) Moore of Cohoes, Lorie (Luke) Shea of Averill Park. Adored grandfather of Melyssa (Andrew) Purrott, Kaitlyn Wheeler, Andrew Wheeler, Regan (Joseph) DeMartino, Erin Cowan (Edward Colihan), Courtney Cowan (Thomas Schrader), Jonathan Smith (Monica Barreiro), Nathan Smith, Cassandra (Carl) Engler, Stephanie (Dave) Lomaestro, Joshua Moore ( Jessica Thayer), Matthew (Lauren) Moore, Shainna (Nicholas) Morse, Charles Shea (Shannon Devane), Adam (Melissa) Shea. Cherished great grandfather of 35 grandchildren and one great- great grandson. Brother to James (Dorothy) Wheeler of Waterford, Evah (the late William) Beck of West Sand Lake, Eleanor (the late Joseph) Bode of Brunswick, Joseph Soldani of Speigletown and the late Gloria Soldani. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Known as Pop and Poppy by family and friends he was the greatest example of unconditional love for his family. He will be deeply missed by family and friends. All of us will carry the legacy of his love, values, strength, faith and support of us as we go forward with him forever in our hearts. We would like to thank all staff of house 14 at Eddy Village Green and Community Hospice for their unending compassionate care. Relatives and friends may call at St. Michael’s Church, 20 Page Avenue, Cohoes, NY on Thursday, February 23, 2023 from 10 AM to 1 PM with funeral service to follow at 1 PM. Internment will be at St. Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes, NY. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ken’s memory to the Holy Trinity Food Pantry at 122 Vliet Blvd, Cohoes, NY or the Alzheimer’s Association of Northeastern NY, 1003 New Loudon Rd, Suite 20, Cohoes, NY.
