Donald W. Linacre

Donald “Pidge” W. Linacre, Sr., 91, of Rensselaer, died peacefully on February 10, 2023 at St. Peter’s Hospital with family at his side. He was born July 28, 1931, the son of George H. and Katherine (Hoffman) Linacre. Loved by many and known to family and friends as Pidge, Pops, Dad, and Grandpa, he is survived by his children, Laurette (James) Ahlemeyer, Donna (the late Terry) Spire, Donald “Pidgie” W. (Marthanne) Linacre, Jr., Kenneth (Heather) Linacre, Michael (Tracy) Linacre; his daughter in law, Denise Linacre; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren as well as the families of his step-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, his brothers and a sister, he was predeceased by his wife, Loretta A. Linacre; his daughter, Patti L. Linacre; and his son, William “Billy” J. Linacre. A Korean War Veteran, he served in the Army from 1952 to 1954. He worked for Burdick and Son for over 20 years, then Adirondack Steel, and retired from SUNY System Administration. He was a dog lover and an avid sports fan. In his late life, he enjoyed cruising and spending time with his companion of 13 years, Patricia Arras. The family wishes to thank his daughter-in-law, Denise Linacre, and her service dog, Fergie, for the care and companionship they provided over the last four months of his life so that he could remain at home. He was loved and cared for so well, and certainly enjoyed having a dog to love and share his meals with. Family and friends are invited and may call on Thursday, February 16, 2023, from 4:00pm-8:00pm at Marra Funeral Home, 246 Remsen St., Cohoes. Friends and family are welcome to arrive after 10:00am on Friday, February 17, 2023 for a prayer service at 11:00am at Marra Funeral Home and with a graveside service to follow at 12:30pm at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville. A reception will then be held at 3:00pm at the Rensselaer Volunteer Ambulance Banquet Hall, 901 Third Street, Rensselaer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, your local VFW Post, or a charity of your choice
