Dorothy Margaret Carroll Gallivan

Dorothy Margaret Carroll Gallivan, known as Dottie to friends and as Mimi to family, danced her way into heaven on July 28, 2023, at the age of 100. Born in Albany on December 17, 1922, the daughter of the late Margaret Delores King & John Roy Carroll. Dororthy was predeceased by the love of her life and husband, Charles Gillette Gallivan. She was employed by Blue Cross Blue Shield for 25 years and was an active member in the Elks Club and her church Christ the King, in Westmere, NY. She loved to travel with her husband, entertain at their home in Guilderland and surround herself with music, laughter and friends & family. She enjoyed dancing and was the life of any party. She met her husband at the early age of 16 and would tell anyone she met that her greatest accomplishment was “catching Charlie”. Charles “Poppy” was stationed in Germany during the war and would write letters to her weekly. He saved up, sent money to his mother and bought a ring and proposed by letter with his mother delivering the ring. Dottie accepted and waited for him to return to the states. They were married on December 8, 1945, and truly embraced life to the fullest. Dorothy is survived by her son Michael Gallivan (Cheryl Prudhomme) of Ft. Edward, NY and daughter Kathleen Gallivan Casazza of Latham, NY, and her beloved sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Ripp of Vero Beach, FL. Survived by her Grandchildren: Kerry Gallivan, (Heather Carbone) of South Boston, MA; Shannon Gallivan Reo (Steven Reo) of Poestenkill, NY; Sean Gallivan (Lisa Gallivan) of Menands, NY; Kourtney Gallivan Oliver (Ron Oliver) of Gainesville, FL; Brendan Gallivan (Jamie Gallivan) of Brunswick, NY; Kristin Casazza Carroll (Greg Carroll) of Grafton, MA. Survived by her great-grandchildren: Kelsey, Sean Jr, Caden Gallivan; Jada & Jayden Oliver; Brendan Jr & Alana Gallivan; Samantha, Molly, Maggie & Brandon Carroll. A private service for family & friends will be held on Thursday August 3, 2023, at 11am at Marra Funeral Home in Cohoes and interment at St Agnes Cemetery in Menands.
