David W. Shaughnessy

David W. Shaughnessy, passed away June 29, 2023, after long illnesses in Saratoga, NY. Formerly residing at Cossayuna Lake, NY and Lakeland, FL Born at home in Watervliet, NY May 9, 1938. Attended Watervliet schools. He excelled in Basketball and Football. His scrapbook contains all the Newspaper clippings of his scoring. He then joined the US Navy proudly serving his country aboard the USS Douglas H. Fox DD779 and the USS Soley DD707 until his Honorable Discharge after the Cuban Blockade in 1963. Long time resident of Menands, NY, member of the Menands Volunteer Fire Department, and regular Red Cross Blood Donor. Drove school bus for many years which included driving his own children in their early years. In 1998 retired from Norton (Nashua) Company and then drove school bus for Kennicutt. David was an avid catch and release Fisherman, fishing morning, noon & night, as well as with his best buddy of 40 plus years Fred (Mary) Bogue. Was a diehard Dolphin football Fan, Red Sox Fan, and NASCAR Fan. Also, He possessed great knowledge of classic cars, history/geography, and the animal kingdom. Dave enjoyed eating out and watching football with long-time friends Mac and Jan Collins. Predeceased by his parents Timothy and Catherine (Flickner) Shaughnessy. Brothers, Timothy, William, and Michael Shaughnessy. Sisters, Katie Clickner and Margaret Shaughnessy. Also predeceased by his wife Prudy Gaige of 40 years and mother of his children. He is survived by his Son William and Daughter Colleen (Michael) Riozzi. Grandsons Tyler Saughnessy and Mike Riozzi. Great granddaughter Aubriana Riozzi. A niece Janet (Dan) Shippy and Nephew Fred (Karen) Clickner. Also survived by Sister-in-law and several Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces, and Nephews in the Gaige family. His surviving Wife of 20 years Eva (Gorleski) Huneau-Shaughnessy. Stepchildren Joseph (Missy) Huneau, Jr., (Cynthia (dec.) (William) Gavitt and Darcie Huneau. Step Grandchildren Joey Huneau, Katrina, and Andrew Gavitt. Step Great Grandson Sawyer Gavitt. Several Sisters-in-law and Brothers-in-law, Nieces, and Nephews and Great Nieces and Nephews. In lieu of flowers in his memory donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans. Arrangements by Marras’ Funeral Home, Cohoes, NY. There are no calling hours and there will be a private burial at Albany Rural Cemetery.
