Joseph F. Sala

Joseph F. Sala, 80, of Lake Placid, Florida (formerly of Cohoes, New York) passed away Friday, January 26, 2024 surrounded by loving family. He was the son of the late Joseph S. Sala and Jane (Olszowy) Sala. Joseph was born in Cohoes, grew up in Northside and graduated from Keveny Memorial Academy. He retired from Owens Corning Fiberglass in Delmar, New York in 2006. Joseph was blessed to have the love of three important women in his life. His first wife Carol and their children, Joseph (Patricia) Sala of Holmdel, New Jersey and Debra (William) Welch of Cohoes, New York. His second wife, Margaret who predeceased him in 2011 and her children who he raised as his own, Mary (Eric) Rumsey of Cohoes, New York and the late Gennaro Appell. He reconnected with Dorothy Sheldrick of Lake Placid Florida who was his companion, caregiver and confidant for his last years. Joseph loved to hunt, fish, tending to his garden, on-line casino games, his Sunday morning Polka music and most of all spending time with his family. Joseph leaves to cherish his memory, his grandchildren; Brittany (Shanna) Welch, Michelle (Ryan) Coulter, Nicholas, Matthew (Katie), Angela Rumsey, Jillian (Christopher) Flowers, Katelyn (Gabriel) Sessoms, Justin, Kylie Sala and Sabrina Appell. Joseph also leaves his sister Joanne Kromrey, his brother Ronald (Mary Ann) Sala as well as his brothers in law Francis Santoro and Edward Choinere. He is predeceased by his brother Francis R. Sala and his brother in law Eugene Kromrey. He also leaves several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. The family would like to express our gratitude to his team of physicians, visiting nurses and the staff of Advent Health and Good Shepherd Hospice facility. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Marra Funeral Home, Internment will in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Waterford, New York. Calling hours will be from 11 am to 1 pm prior to the services. Those who wish may make contributions in Joseph’s memory to the American Diabetes Association or to a charity of your choice.
